I have actually played a lot of games, but haven't really taken any pictures as it has primarily been Star Wars X-Wing and Armada. Sadly I am not doing very well in my painting goals. I actually did some painting today and was pleased with the results.<br />

<br />
So where am I in my goals? As of today I have played 23 games (16 Miniature Games and 7 Board Games). 15 of those games have been part of my goals. That put's me slightly ahead on my gaming goals for the year as I currently need to play 6 games a month from my goal list to complete my goal. I am also happy that I am playing some different games that were not on my list. <br />

<br />
<br />
For painting, I am way behind. I find myself coming home from work, eating some food, watching a youtube video and then going to bed. I really need to stay up another hour or two an just get some paint on some miniatures every night. I do need to find more podcasts to listen to as youtube videos are distracting as I tend to want to watch them instead of just listen. If you are into 15mm Sci Fi I recommend this one from Clear Horizon Miniatures.<br />

<br />
As far as purchases go I have been fairly good. I have bought some X-Wing and Armada models along with some acrylic templates and tokens. I also bought the new box of Morat Rodak for the Combined Army for Infinity. I did purchase Descent and a few expansions for a very large discount and I also bought some new dice from Chessex at a local convention. So currently I am happy with my purchases. I do need to buy some decals from Victrix for my Carthaginians and I want to buy more foam for my X-Wing and Armada.<br />

Next post will layout what my 2 Divisions of Carthaginian Infantry will look like and what my inspiration will be.<br />

<i>Leaked news reports were calling it "<a href="http://littlenickysgameroom.blogspot.com/2016/01/15mm-gruntz-2016-battle-report-1-unsc.html" target="_blank">The Massacre on 2335 Coronae IV</a>". Rumors were spreading, and a new uprising would occur each day. Colonel Carthen was tasked with silencing these false truths, a crime punishable by death. Still, Carthen was worried as the rebels had access to tanks and other vehicles via illegal arms trading. He had many under cover spies and drones attempting to find out who was behind this influx, but so far nothing.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>"Sir, a message for you" the young sergeant handing him a data slate. Carthen had the intel he needed. One of his spies had infiltrated an illicit trade agreement and learned of the next area to obtain new hardware. Carthen mobilized his small strike force. High Command was kind enough to send him more Spider Droids and Horizon's sister tank, Immortal.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>FUBAR.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Enemy forces have been identified as the Helghast, a very mysterious, but high tech nuisance to the UNSC. Rumors are that the Helghast were once human, but through gene splicing and copious amounts of experimental drugs, they are anything but human now. His forces must have been spotted, as a rather large force of Helghast was bearing down upon them. The humming of a Helo's engine could be heard. This fight would definitely be interesting...</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Matt and I played another game of Gruntz at our local hobby store. We played a 400 point battle, with him bringing a much beefier and respectable force this time. I brought my UNSC again. I tweaked my forces a little since our last battle. I love how you can tweak your guys in Gruntz to be exactly what you want. We play pretty much by the book, except that we double all shooting ranges.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The end of the battle. Lots of damaged vehicles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Was a very fun and close battle. Not entirely sure who won as we don't really care, we just want to have fun. I had lost nearly half of my infantry. Matt's infantry had taken a beating, but kept rolling 5s and 6s to get them to stand back up on his auto heal perk. I lost a spider droid and had a few badly banged up tanks. Matt lost 1 tank, a second 1 point away from dying and a 3rd with a large chunk taken out of it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I need to find some air cover to take out that blasted Helicopter. Was very hard to hit with its Active Camo device.</div>

I played quite a few games of Force on Force against Dave from Colorado Springs (<a href="http://beast44a.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">His Blog</a>) in the late 2014 to mid 2015 time-frame. This was one of the last games Dave and I played before he left the state due to being re-deployed. I really enjoyed playing against him. This was a nice break from playing western forces vs their enemies. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This battle was to represent an early skirmish in the Libyan crisis before Western airpower demolished pro-Gaddafi forces. The objective of this scenario was for the pro-Gaddafi forces to storm a compound with targets of high importance. </div>

I will miss battles like this as I don't currently have a regular non-Western force at the moment. I would love to build a modern Russian/Ukranian or Syrian force that could face my collection of irregulars. Maybe one of these days Dave will come back to Colorado and we can play.</div>

I seem to have failed to take anymore pictures after this point. Essentially Bill moved up into combat with my Carnivean, and moved his line forward. Kreoss edged too far to my right. My next turn was the last as eAbsylonia feated, killed a model which gave every model in her battlegroup (Every warbeast) conferred rage (+2 spd and mat). My Raek was able to assassinate pKreoss. It was a pretty brutal and effective assassination run. If Bill had moved Kreoss literally 1 inch to my left, he would have lived and pounded me on his turn.LittleNickyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15745767087177566501noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8739739902968515896.post-56244708546517474292016-01-11T08:00:00.000-07:002016-01-11T08:00:15.447-07:0015mm Gruntz 2016 Battle Report 1: UNSC vs Rag Tag Militia <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Upon learning of an illegal arms trade and subsequent uprising the United Nebular Space Council dispatched a peace keeping force to the desert planet of 2335 Coronae IV. Unknown to the UNSC strike force was the exact composition of the local militia. Colonel Carthen, commander of the UNSC forces in the Coronae sector only had one mechanized platoon and the Paladin class tank "Horizon" to quell this uprising. The troops he commanded were elite light infantry, with some serious hardware and numerous battles to their name. Forward reconnaissance located the Militia scum 1 click north of their current landing site. The terrain was not very favorable, this planet was pretty barren with very little vegetation, but orders were orders. The uprising must be silenced.</i></div>

Spider Droid moved forward to destroy most of an enemy infantry unit. A squad has been wiped out. Frakkin Noobs. Horizon decides to Brew up another Hover Tank while taking minimal return fire. The Militia vehicles acquired in the illegal arms trade seem to be of poor quality. Spider Droid moved too far forward and took a large amount of damage from the back destroying it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Had a great game with my friend Matt. We played 300 points a side. He is still trying to build a cohesive force out of his very large collection of 15mm figures. I have been tweaking this force for a while and I think I am close to a nice balance. His troops were very under armed and under trained. I told him to make his guys at least skill/shoot 4 if he wants to represent trained soldiers as 3 skill/shoot can't hit much in this game. He also took way too light of guns on his vehicles. He had a very hard time doing much damage to my troops. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had a missile launcher in each squad along with 2 heavy laser teams. I was able to do heaps of damage to his vehicles and mop up his infantry with small arms fire. My force was all skill/shoot 5 to represent a battle hardened unit of veterans. They also all had the Hard Vetz special rule to match their backstory. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my force that I want to finish up painting and have at least 600 points to mess around with. I would like to continue creating and fleshing out their back story. Kind of an oppressive futuristic U.N. style force.</div>

The first finished paint job for my Legion of Everblight. This model was completed in 2015. I do need to figure out a few things to enhance the base. I will probably add snow and tufts. I really like the blues and the natural chitin looking armor plates. This will be the scheme for the whole force. I used an airbrush to lay down the foundations of blues and then the armor plates and feathering to get a nice gradient. Wet blending was then used to bring it all together and highlight.</div>

Starting 2016 right. Rob and I decided to play a game of Star Wars Armada with some Wave 2 goodies on Sunday. We haven't played many games, and this was our first 400 point game using the updated organized play rules. Rob wanted to test out the Imperials while I took the Rebel Alliance. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We both made poor meta decisions in our fleets builds. I took 4 X-Wings, a MC80 Assault Carrier and 2 MC30c Scout Frigates with some beefy upgrades. My fleet was designed to take out Capital Ships from a distance while running circles around them. Rob took 1 Star Destroyer, 2 Raiders and a boat load of Tie Fighters, 2 Bombers and Bobba Fet! He thought I was going to take tons of Squadrons. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_130843_zps3onozghm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_130843_zps3onozghm.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Deployment. I wanted to stay far away from that Star Destroyer</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_130848_zpsp41kpkqb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_130848_zpsp41kpkqb.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's a lot of Squadrons...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cautious movement on turn 1 from both fleets</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_133139_zpspk7nayqs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_133139_zpspk7nayqs.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A wall of Squadrons. Not sure how I can deal with that</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_133143_zpswvormd8b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_133143_zpswvormd8b.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My plan was to get around their rear</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_142527_zps6vqiaxet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_142527_zps6vqiaxet.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Admiral Akbar erased a Raider. Some Bombers beat up my MC30c. Akbar decided to bump the MC30c and failed at maneuvering.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_142529_zpsco3md9ly.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_142529_zpsco3md9ly.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
X-Wings have a lot of work to do. Let's keep that Star Destroyer out of the way. The closest MC30c would eventually fall due to Bombers, Bobba Fet!, and the Victory.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_152654_zpslmsy0luw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Star%20Wars/20160103_152654_zpslmsy0luw.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I must have missed a turn. Akbar put a beating on the Victory the turn before. All my X-Wings were destroyed, but all of the Imperial Squadrons are nearly dead. At the end of the Game the Victory had 1 Hull point left with lots of Crits. My 2 Remaining Ships were fresh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I enjoyed the game thoroughly. We fumbled around with the rules a few times due to not playing for a while. Those new Rebel ships are beastly. Rob wants to play again Sunday. I might try out some different squadrons. Definitely want to look at some of the other ship upgrades.</div>

A couple guys at the local game store got into Warmachine/Hordes by Privateer Press in 2015. I have been playing this game for years, but took a long hiatus as I couldn't find any opponents. My friend Bill started collecting a Menoth force. We are still learning and re-learning the rules. We have been playing 35 point forces until we are more comfortable. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The start of my 35 point force</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I only have a few pictures of this game. I was running epic Absylonia with a beast heavy force (A given with Absylonia). Bill was running a prime Kreoss list with very stock units. Pretty much I was crunching on his army when Bill asked about his feat. I blanked, realized it was knockdown and proceeded to show him how to beat me. Abyslonia died a brutal horrible death from charging weapon masters.</div>

Not entirely sure what happened. I did move positions at work, but I actually have weekends now which should be a boon to a gamer like me. 2015 was not the best year hobby wise. I played a decent amount of games, played more board games, and did some painting here and there. I started a lot of armies, but only to move onto another project very quickly. I have refined my gaming to certain genres and rule sets. I have pretty much given up on anything Games Workshop. Hopefully 2016 will be a little more cohesive and I can finish a few projects and play more games.<br />
<br />
Painting Goals:<br />
<br />

Gaming Goals<br />
<br />
12 games each of the following:<br />
Warmachine/Hordes<br />
Infinity<br />
Star Wars X-Wing<br />
Star Wars Armada<br />
Gruntz<br />
<br />
6 Games of the following:<br />
Hail Caesar<br />
20mm Moderns<br />
<br />
<br />
Would love to hit a majority of these goals. I am aiming to play my first game of Hail Caesar in March. Will probably be just 1 division per side (4 units + skirmishers). I would really like to limit my purchases to storage and transportation, terrain, and filling in the gaps of armies I already have models for. I have a lot of unbuilt miniatures. I really need to cut down on my purchasing of miniatures that I won't even paint for a couple years. It will be hard to resist, but I have already done pretty well over the past couple months resisting a few exciting looking armies and games. I would love to go a whole year without purchasing a new game system (New rule sets are fine as long as they fit the models I already own).<br />
<br />
Anyways, sorry to everyone that follows this blog for taking over a year to post. I should have a few posts lined up from pictures I have taken in 2015, and then I plan to take pictures of every game I play. Would love to post 1-2 times a week. We shall visit this post again in a year and see how we do.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

Ross Kemp? Force on Force AAR<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Saturday I got to host a fun game of Force on Force by <a href="http://ambushalleygames.com/" target="_blank">Ambush Alley Games</a>. It was just a fun learning game between my Modern British Army against the dreaded Taliban somewhere in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The premise of this scenario was that a curious group of reporters had made their way into a local village and wanted to interview the town elders. Accompanying the reporters is the platoon commander with his HQ elements. The commander wanted to learn more about the town and try to create a relationship with the villagers. He brought his medic along to help treat any villagers that might be suffering from injuries and disease. For safety reasons the commander has a squad sweeping the town and and quick reaction force available for extraction.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unbeknownst to the commander, the local insurgency has an insider among the town elders and plans to ambush and capture the civilian news reporting team to take hostage and use as a bargaining chip.</div>

Was a very fun game. I have not played a game of Force on Force for quite some time. Still my favorite rule set by far when it comes to asymmetrical warfare. Needs some fine tuning still for two trained forces combating each other and the rules are definitely in dire need of reorganizing. Only thing I couldn't figure out was exactly how to resolve was an IED hitting the bottom of an MRAP. I just used side armor values plus all the benefits the MRAP gets against IEDs. What does everyone else use?</div>

This weekend was a great one for miniature gaming. Saturday I managed to get in a demo game of Force on Force which I will post an AAR of later this week. Sunday I played a multiplayer game of Gruntz.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.wargamevault.com/images/3792/92879.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.wargamevault.com/images/3792/92879.png" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a game I have been following for a very long time. I have collected a decent amount of 15mm Sci Fi miniatures over the years, but it has for the most part just been sitting and collecting dust. Lately quite a few of my friends have been interested in 15mm Sci Fi so we started building our forces and designing our armies. This is pretty much the 3rd time I have played the game and it was a blast. We did make one change to the rules and that was to double all weapon ranges. We felt like the current ranges were way too short for our tastes. It made the game a much more enjoyable experience.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We paired up Aaron with Brian, and Kurt with me. The forces looked like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aaron (beige/sand): <a href="http://www.gruntomatic.com/gom/force/271/" target="_blank">Caliphate Infiltration Battalion</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Brian (Blue): <a href="http://www.gruntomatic.com/gom/force/278/" target="_blank">Khanate Strike Force</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kurt (Yellow-Green): <a href="http://www.gruntomatic.com/gom/force/341/" target="_blank">Principate Rangers</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nick (Bare Metal): <a href="http://www.gruntomatic.com/gom/force/468/" target="_blank">UNSC Light Attack Force</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Objectives: Destroy the opposition!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aaron brought some terrain for us to fight over. A few <a href="http://www.gamecraftminiatures.com/" target="_blank">Gamecraft Miniatures</a> buildings, a building from the HALO toy range and some esoteric crystals.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The first few turns were mainly just each force moving into position to get the best firing lanes and terrain. Kurt and I were much more aggressive in our advance by double moving our APCs forward to attempt to take the buildings.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_132415_zpsbblrp5se.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_132415_zpsbblrp5se.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133131_zpsznx3ddzf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133131_zpsznx3ddzf.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can just see the barrel of the main gun on one of my Paladin tanks at the bottom middle of this next picture. I had them keeping back and off to the flank to make use of their tremendous range.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133411_zpsdxw30inq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133411_zpsdxw30inq.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133418_zpsteotrinl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133418_zpsteotrinl.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133424_zpsq2lp0cu8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_133424_zpsq2lp0cu8.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There was some minor damage done here and there to the APCs. My Paladin tanks were taking chunks out of Brian's Blue APCs and had him quite worried. Forced him to start disembarking pretty early.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_134916_zps8mkya8h5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_134916_zps8mkya8h5.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aaron's sneaky sniper team was quite an annoyance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_134927_zpsjz0secmw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_134927_zpsjz0secmw.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kurt and I disembark the bulk of our forces and take advantage of as much cover as possible. I move my spider drones in a way that they can take advantage of Brian's infantry if they move out into the open.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_140550_zpszxbxwuro.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_140550_zpszxbxwuro.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_140550_zpszxbxwuro.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_140550_zpszxbxwuro.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At this point Brian had lost most of his vehicles. My Paladins were racking up kills and big hits on his vehicles. Kurt and Aaron were off blowing each other up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_143805_zpsspw0zkme.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_143805_zpsspw0zkme.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My two MVPs the Paladin High Mobility Tank. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_143821_zpsw7v0xl9x.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_143821_zpsw7v0xl9x.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Brian gets some Air support and takes out one of my APCs. An acceptable casualty as it had already delivered it's cargo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_164630_zpsar2umzrt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_164630_zpsar2umzrt.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the very far background you can see Aaron has deployed a unit in Kurt's rear and is causing massive casualties. My spider droids had pretty much wiped out an infantry unit of Brian's and all of his vehicles were smoldering wrecks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_164643_zpscsn3oujr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_164643_zpscsn3oujr.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A nice giant bottleneck for the infantry. Aaron had dealt a decent amount of casualties and Brian had killed an APC and 2 weapon teams of mine.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_164654_zps1lmf1vex.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140316_164654_zps1lmf1vex.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We called it shortly after this. It was getting late in the day. Brian's forces were looking small and Kurt had lost all his Vehicles and a good chunk of infantry. Aaron had a few casualties, but was looking to be in a good position. I had lost all my APCs and one of my Paladins was suffering from a critical hit to it's optics. My infantry was firmly holding the buildings content on letting the enemy come to them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Aaron probably has some great pictures from his perspective and I am looking forward to that. It was a fun game and we learned a lot. Rules are pretty great and simple. Now I need to get some paint on this force. I'm thinking a Cobra Commander looking group :)</div>

This is a force that I got from <a href="http://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/" target="_blank">Ground Zero Games</a>. They are a chitinous alien race that reminds me of the aliens from District 9. I have 2 more larger walkers that aren't built yet and I am working on finding some sort of transport vehicle. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Not much too look at right now. I do like how the bases came out on the guys in the middle. I am thinking of a green and grey theme for the guns, mechs and armor suits. I am thinking brown washes and a khaki high light will work pretty well for the chitin.<br />
<br />
I played a game of Gruntz with these guys on Sunday. My friend took a bunch of pics so hopefully I can get those from him and post up an AAR. LittleNickyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15745767087177566501noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8739739902968515896.post-28160229380302343062014-02-22T17:32:00.001-07:002014-02-22T17:32:05.052-07:00Early WIP Terrain BoardJust a quick teaser for you guys. My good friend Lee is helping me build a terrain board for my foray into 1980's Cold War engagements in West/East Germany. Lee is a fantastic terrain builder and helped build my Afghanistan terrain boards. When I say help, I mean Lee does 75% or more of the work and I do the detailing and brainstorming ;)<br />
<br />
The terrain is all 1/72 scale.<br />
<br />
The idea of this table is to be a small town somewhere in Germany. The outskirts of town are mostly farmland and turns into a little rural town with a larger factory and train station that give it a little bit of identity.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140213_094106_zpshetwo61l.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140213_094106_zpshetwo61l.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
There are two more sideboards that attach to the board edge closest to the camera. The table will be 8x6 comprised of six 2x4 sections. It won't be modular, but it will give me options if I want to play on smaller tables made up of the boards that I have. <br />
<br />
Most of the buildings are from <a href="http://www.gamecraftminiatures.com/" target="_blank">Gamecraft Miniatures</a> with a couple HO scale buildings and accessories mixed in and one Italeri Church. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140210_113151_zpsvgfuwrvi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140210_113151_zpsvgfuwrvi.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I need to buy a few more walls and buildings. Lee has been going crazy finding fun little details to put on the board. There will be a main road going through town with a cross section and little side roads. We have actually re-positioned a lot of the buildings in the top picture and optimized the layout. All the buildings will be on bases for ease of storage and so I can play with them on a regular game mat. <br />
<br />
This project won't be done anytime soon, but I wanted to show you something that I am pretty excited about. I'll post updates every once in a while to keep you in the loop.LittleNickyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15745767087177566501noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8739739902968515896.post-19835764706897725072014-02-18T01:32:00.001-07:002014-02-18T01:37:44.814-07:0015mm Sci Fi Clearhorizon Miniatures Review<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.clearhorizonminiatures.com/images/deploysm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.clearhorizonminiatures.com/images/deploysm.jpg" height="132" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For those of you who are interested in 15mm Science Fiction miniature gaming, there is a relatively new company called <a href="http://www.clearhorizonminiatures.com/">Clearhorizon Miniatures</a> run by Mr Harold from the <a href="http://dropshiphorizon.blogspot.com/">Dropship Horizon Blog</a>. Currently the miniature line is very small, but he has plans to expand it and has put out some amazing products so far. I also have to say that Harold's customer service is very good and he ships his product as soon as possible. That being said, he does seem to 3rd party his casting and molding so there can be some delay if he is low or out of stock of a product. He does however let you know about these delays instead of leaving you wondering like certain miniature companies out there.<br /><br />Onto the products!<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://clearhorizonminiatures.com/store/infantry-and-drones/">15mm "Hell Divers" Infantry</a>:<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_225655_zpsygaivbfj.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_225655_zpsygaivbfj.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a><a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_225640_zpsyfnximvz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_225640_zpsyfnximvz.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These seem to be designed as a special forces unit that specializes in rapid insertion missions. I feel like they have a ton of character with very nice sharp detail. They are definitely on the more slender side of 15mm miniatures, but match up height wise with the larger 15mm companies out there. This does make them seem rather small at times from a distance. They have an optional backpack that gives them that added character you don't get with most 15mm minis out there. Currently you can buy an Alpha squad and a Bravo squad, which essentially is a 12 man regular armed unit, or a 6 man special weapons squad. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those who care, I will be using these in Gruntz as an Elite unit that consists of 6 gruntz, 1 SAW and 1 AT attachment to make a squad of 8. Each of my platoons will be 3 squads, with one squad swapping out the AT weapon with a sniper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Would definitely like to see more command options. </div>

I think it is safe to say that there really is nothing like this kit out there in the 15mm market right now. I have to admit that at first I was skeptical as to how interesting this kit would be. I think my first picture shows how beautiful this model really is and how much flavor it actually has for essentially a box that falls out of the sky. The model itself is cast very well with very few air bubbles and nothing major. There are definitely some fiddly parts to the model and the smaller pieces do need some cleaning and trimming to actually fit properly, but well worth it in the end. You can also glue the outer doors shut if you want.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I do feel like this model requires a base as it is rather fragile without one which could be a downside. No open doors internal doors is also something to note, however I do think that it would be very difficult to cast one with that feature without redesigning the entire model. Overall I enjoy this model a lot, I don't think pictures can really do this model complete justice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Note: This model brings out my inner child as I constantly make imitation thruster noises as I crash my model through the atmosphere and land it on the table deploying its cargo. Just ask my friends...</div>

The casts are pretty clean for resin with little to no air bubbles just like the Drop Ships. There is of course some clean up to do and some mold lines will need to be filed, but nothing too extreme. One thing that I really appreciated was that when I did find a noticeable air bubble, it was actually filled with a modelling putty of some sort and filed down to match the model. I think this is very important to note as not only does it show that Harold inspects his miniatures for defects before shipping them, he corrects those defects that would possibly make a customer disappointed in the purchase. The smaller pieces could have been cast or molded differently to make them easier to clean, but I think they are good enough to where most people won't complain.<br /><br />Both of these VTOLs are pretty sizable. Not sure if you can tell by my cutting board, but the Raven is roughly 5 inches long and the SparrowHawk about 3.5 inches. They have some pretty solid detail and they dry fit pretty well.<br /><br />I am pretty happy. I usually hate resin models due to the casting flaws, but these are really nice. I would like to see some sort of flight stand that could be bought with these models. I am not very savvy when it comes to making my own flight stand, but this is really nit picking at this point and would definitely be a logistical burden on Harold's part to provide them.<br /><br /><br />Packaging:<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_221553_zpsauzzdkap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_221553_zpsauzzdkap.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a><a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_221539_zpsifko08gn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20140214_221539_zpsifko08gn.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br /><div>
This might not be important to the majority of customers out there, but something has to be said about packaging. I would honestly say that Harold packages his model in a more professional manner than just about any other 15mm Company out there. Usually you get a little baggy with a permanent marker tag denoting what item code the model inside is. The full color tags on the bags are really well done and definitely make it easy to identify what you have ordered. As I said, most customers won't care about this little touch, but I do think it shows just how passionate Harold is about his miniatures. You will also find a few business cards and some nice full color print outs of rules for the miniatures if you plan to play the game <a href="http://www.wargamevault.com/product/92879/Gruntz-15mm-SCI-FI">Gruntz</a> which I would highly recommend (but that is for another post).<br /><br /><br />Hope you enjoyed my review. This is a company I would definitely recommend. <br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div>

I have an unhealthy love of Mechs, walkers, power armor suits and the like. I had seen a few pictures here and there on facebook, but at the time I didn't really think anything of it other than "those look cool". Anyways there is a kick starter that has reached full funding within the first couple of hours. The mechs are kind of pricey at $30-$35 a pop, but they are also nearly 5 inches tall. <br />
<br />
Wait, what?! A 15mm model that is nearly 5 inches tall? You had me at Mech...<br />
<br />
Anyways here is the link to the kick starter, very limited options in actual backing, but sometimes it is rather nice to have a simple kick starter.<br />

<br />
They also had a kick starter that I missed for a Digital art book. I have been looking through some of their stuff and have to say I am impressed. Pretty cheap too. You can still get in on the pre-release which says to have some perks of the original kick starter. Here is a link to that post.<br />

<br />
Thought this was cool enough to make a post about. Oh and if you like Mechs as much as I do, check out this guy, he is pretty much the go to guy for 15mm Mechs. I would honestly say he has digitally sculpted almost any 15mm mech you will find out on the market. He also made a little post about this Kick Starter.<br />

Sorry I have been quiet lately, a lot has been happening lately (good things, not bad: new car, new promotion at work, family visiting etc). Will try to post more often. Been quietly working on Cold War Soviets and BAOR. Might do more posts on new minis that different companies are putting out too.<br />

<br />
I am at the stage where I will be painting 1 squad at a time to actually finish them. Still have a ways to go, but these are definitely a lot more exciting than Taliban to paint. <br />
<br />
I have 1 more BTR-80 on the way along with 4 T-64s and 4 BMP2s from Sandsmodels. I have been taking pictures of individual soldiers along the way in hopes of making a painting tutorial at the end of this project. One of the scenario ideas I have is for a "What if" the Soviet Union invaded West Germany in the late 1980's. For this scenario I will be pitting the USSR against the BAOR (British Army of the Rhine). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20131022_232126_zpsd2111cda.jpg?t=1382505727" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/20131022_232126_zpsd2111cda.jpg?t=1382505727" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I started work on my Elhiem Soviets. The idea is to have 2 mechanized platoons of infantry available for the players. I might add a few more if time allows it. I have cleaned and mounted my infantry, and sorted the 2 platoons. As you can see I have some spare figures so if I want I can add a few more squads. I have 4 T-80s built along with 2 BTR-80s. I want to purchase some T-55s, BRDMs and BMPs. I also own 2 T-62s and 2 T-72s and 1 more BTR-80. <br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
For the BAOR I have a platoon of infantry mounted, based, primed and started on some brush work. I have all of the special weapons, hq and extras coming from Elhiem right now. I also have 4 Challenger 1s, 2 Scorpions, 2 Scimitars, and 4 Warriors built up and being mounted on bases. <br />
<br />
My good friend Lee is going to be helping me with the terrain. Lee is responsible for my Afghanistan terrain board and all of the buildings that go along with it. Over the past year I have purchased numerous buildings from Gamecraft, Italeri and some other companies. Lee will be making a full table for my two forces to destroy each other on. I will be helping him as much as I can, but he is fully aware that my main attention will be on all of my infantry and vehicles.<br />
<br />
So far some buildings have been built, and a lot of supplies have been bought. We have done some preliminary sketches, and just from that I can say that this table will be awesome. If you have not seen my Afghanistan Table I highly suggest looking through some of my old posts. Lee has learnt a lot since then.<br />
<br />
Just wanted to update you all as I haven't posted in over a week. Hope you can see all the weathering I did on the vehicles. I have been arguing with myself about basing my vehicles or not, I really like how they look on the bases and I think I will do all of my vehicles this way. <br />

This is the first time I have done a gloss coat and then the actual wash. It definitely helped the enamel to flow in the cracks. <br />

<br />
<br />
You can see a couple of my Taliban in the last picture. Still a little ways to go on them. <br />
<br />
On the Warriors I still need to go back with some thinner and clean up a lot of spots. I need to buy a brush with a finer point for the enamel washes.<br />
<br />
For those of you that are wondering, I am using AK interactives OIF and OEF enamel wash with testors thinner to thin it.<br />

<a href="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Force%20on%20Force%20Battles/100_2135.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Nick53588/Force%20on%20Force%20Battles/100_2135.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
In February Denver Gamer's Association will be hosting one of their 2 conventions called Genghiscon. This is the larger of the two conventions they host every year and usually has a decent crowd for miniature games. This year I wasn't motivated enough to put on any games at Tacticon in early September, although I did help my friend Matt out and helped run the booth of one of my friendly local game stores. I have been brewing a few ideas and would like some input from the community. All of my games will be done using the Force on Force rules by Ambush Alley Games as I really enjoy these rules and I feel very comfortable teaching others how to play. I also have painted miniatures and terrain for this rule set.<br />
<br />
The convention itself starts Thursday, February the 13th to Monday the 17th. Not much goes on Thursday and Monday so I don't really plan to do anything those days. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/files/2013/06/BritishAfghanistan_1299426c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/files/2013/06/BritishAfghanistan_1299426c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Friday: I was planning on hosting a game set in Afghanistan. I am just about finished with my last 60ish Taliban putting my total at over 120 painted insurgents and civilian types. I also have an over sized platoons worth of British Army/Royal Marines fully painted and I am working on the rest of my British Vehicles which a full list can be found <a href="http://littlenickysgameroom.blogspot.com/2013/04/more-work-in-progress-lots-of.html" target="_blank">here</a>. I do have some USMC started, but only 1 squad fully painted so would require a decent amount of work to get to convention standards. I also have tons of terrain already done for Afghanistan. Haven't decided on a scenario yet, but was thinking some vehicles would be nice. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://milsims.cdn.kept.com.au/sites/milsims.com.au/files/imagecache/product_full/9781849085366.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://milsims.cdn.kept.com.au/sites/milsims.com.au/files/imagecache/product_full/9781849085366.jpg" width="249" /></a></div>
<br />
Saturday: Was thinking of doing two games based on Cold War Gone Hot "what if" situations. I don't have anything painted for this period, but I do have a BAOR platoon cleaned primed and base coated along with a bunch of vehicles built and a ton of Soviets nearly prepped for priming with a bunch of vehicles built with others to be built too. I also have an entire European style village's worth of buildings, schools and factories that are in random stages of being built. This project would take the most effort. I figure something grandiose would be best as I want this to be the game that attracts the most people. Vehicles on both sides with lots of infantry to push around. My ideas were anything from a hold until relieved, breakout, fighting withdrawal or a capture and control mission. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qCdb88Y3Uz8/Rf15hI_6CyI/AAAAAAAAAIs/V8cRPsu4-Mk/s400/TheBeast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qCdb88Y3Uz8/Rf15hI_6CyI/AAAAAAAAAIs/V8cRPsu4-Mk/s320/TheBeast.jpg" width="220" /></a></div>
<br />
Sunday: Since I will be working on Soviets, and I have a ton of Afghanistan locale painted up, I figured it would be fun and different to do the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. I already have the terrain for it as the country looks the same through out history. I will have to dig up the scenario, but I believe someone wrote up one based on the movie The Beast. I will have to look into this one some more, but I believe this could be quite exciting to play.<br />
<br />
So here are my ideas. I have 4 1/2 months to get ready. Any input would be appreciated. What kind of scenarios do you prefer to play at a convention? Would you do something different? I don't want to venture too far from these time periods/regions as this is what I already own and have a decent amount ready for. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://chestofcolors.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/brushes-review-winsor-newton-series-7-rosemary-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="206" src="http://chestofcolors.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/brushes-review-winsor-newton-series-7-rosemary-1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On a side note, I finally found and bought some Winsor and Newton Series 7 brushes. I have always wanted to try these, but could never find a distributor once I had the money to buy them. I have been using a #1 on my Taliban and have been really enjoying them. They definitely hold a lot more paint than an Army Painter of Games Workshop paint brush and have a much nicer point. In total I have a 00, 0, 1 and 4. <br />
<br />
Hopefully I will have some finished pictures of my Taliban soon. Also planning on finishing my Warriors very soon. <br />

More Taliban...I seem to always be painting Taliban! I have been slowly making some progress on the last of my Taliban forces. It is a mix of some civilian types, more generic militants and a few more specialized guys. I do have some actual heavy weapons to base up too. There is a Technical and donkey cart in the background too. As you can see there are quite a few guys. <br />
<br />
The hardest part about the Taliban is getting them to look like a rag tag group of individuals while maintaining a unified feel. I essentially lump a bunch of them together and paint their shorts and overdress the same color, then paint any other clothing apparel they have a different color. I try to stick with earthy tones for the most part, but I have seen some blues in pictures.<br />

<br />
For those of you that have viewed my blog before, you probably know that I already have quite a few Taliban. They do need some touching up and will get that treatment once these guys are done. They also need their bases finished.<br />

I also managed to play some Force on Force: <i>Cold War Gone Hot</i> today. Mostly mechanized units of BAOR vs Soviets. Was pretty fun. Was mainly a learning experience as I am not 100% familiar with the vehicle rules in Force on Force and I am running through them to see what I need to work on. I didn't take any pictures because my forces weren't painted and looked a little tacky, but as I said, was mainly a test game to learn the rules a little bit better.</div>

So what have I been up too?<br />

<br />
Well in March I quit my job as a Manager in the restaurant industry and I now work at First Bank. I am very happy with my current job as it is a local company, but at the same time a very large company so lots of room for growth and good benefits. The downside is I have been very busy.<br />
<br />

<br />
I also bought my 2 Turtles a new 125 Gallon Aquarium. I spent a few weeks getting this bad boy set up with proper plumbing and all. My turtles are very happy and the water quality is amazing. My old set up was awful and the water would foul very fast. I have a 30 gallon sump that keeps the water nice and clean with very little maintenance. <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Miniature wise I haven't done too much. Taken a break from any actual gaming over the summer. I have been playing a lot of Starcraft 2 and just chilling with friends. I recently started painting my Taliban again and hope to have all the infantry done soon. I picked up the Gruntz rule book and got my Kickstarter minis from Criticalmass Games. Things should be back in full swing soon. I'll post some pics of the minis I have purchased and my current paint jobs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also, I won't be putting on any games at Tacticon this year. Didn't really feel like dealing with the DGA group this year. I will be putting on some games in February for Genghis Con. Not sure what yet, but something fun none the less. That is it for today. </div>
<br />LittleNickyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15745767087177566501noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8739739902968515896.post-81807994842954624482013-05-18T22:01:00.002-06:002013-05-18T22:01:20.742-06:00FoF AAR: Sangin AmbushThursday was our weekly meet up at one of our friendly local game stores and I had prepared a game of Force on Force. I have sort of found a new favorite scenario out of the Enduring Freedom companion book called Sangin Ambush. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ambushalleygames.com/media/com_hikashop/upload/thumbnail/fof2%20cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://ambushalleygames.com/media/com_hikashop/upload/thumbnail/fof2%20cover.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I slightly modify most scenarios to cater to the models and terrain I own. In this case there are suppose to be Viking APCs, but I like to use my MRAPs. Some terrain placement is also different, but the overall feel of the scenario is still there.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eoONTVX22VY/UZhI0LoA-EI/AAAAAAAAASo/L3YIbFeHWfE/s1600/IMAG0357.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eoONTVX22VY/UZhI0LoA-EI/AAAAAAAAASo/L3YIbFeHWfE/s320/IMAG0357.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The idea of this scenario is that the 3rd MRAP in the column has been knocked out and the Royal Marines need to rescue the crew and passengers and get back to base out of the Ambush Zone. However the Taliban are heavily armed and have a different plan in mind.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KsHNBNYqNP8/UZhJsTMVhaI/AAAAAAAAASw/5pfNDDEeEkM/s1600/IMAG0355.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KsHNBNYqNP8/UZhJsTMVhaI/AAAAAAAAASw/5pfNDDEeEkM/s320/IMAG0355.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The Taliban have pushed a truck in the way of the second MRAP. Coalition forces are weary of a suspected Vehicle Born IED.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KVHmVQU3UCc/UZhJsTTlo4I/AAAAAAAAAS0/KsApjIwbwN8/s1600/IMAG0356.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KVHmVQU3UCc/UZhJsTTlo4I/AAAAAAAAAS0/KsApjIwbwN8/s320/IMAG0356.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12.7mm DShK HMG teams are on the left side of the column ready to ambush any troops that get out of their MRAPs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T1wQiFArRUI/UZhJw0mkHkI/AAAAAAAAATA/onhkbcpLUmc/s1600/IMAG0358.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T1wQiFArRUI/UZhJw0mkHkI/AAAAAAAAATA/onhkbcpLUmc/s320/IMAG0358.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
British Forces take some unlucky hits early from one of the DShK teams. This resulted in the death of the Medic and the JTAC becoming a serious wound. The MRAPs used their GPMGs to neutralize the DShK, but the damage had already been done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QVHwAvBD5AQ/UZhLf8OsWjI/AAAAAAAAATQ/Gqu5rxoNdWo/s1600/IMAG0359.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QVHwAvBD5AQ/UZhLf8OsWjI/AAAAAAAAATQ/Gqu5rxoNdWo/s320/IMAG0359.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The lead Land Rover WMIK suffered from a mechanical failure and found itself immobilized. AK and RPG fire also managed to immobilize the other WMIK.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ViccTbfqTqk/UZhL7jXjCiI/AAAAAAAAATg/I2Pncxv5jRg/s1600/IMAG0360.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ViccTbfqTqk/UZhL7jXjCiI/AAAAAAAAATg/I2Pncxv5jRg/s320/IMAG0360.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Concentrated firepower from the Land Rovers did a good job of neutralizing the Taliban cells near the front of the column. ISTAR discovered a person of interest in the area and the Land Rovers not able to capture him, decided that destroying him and his reinforcements was a reasonable alternative.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rOUEBBP4UdY/UZhL71sCGWI/AAAAAAAAATY/-ptcc6Z3ChY/s1600/IMAG0361.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rOUEBBP4UdY/UZhL71sCGWI/AAAAAAAAATY/-ptcc6Z3ChY/s320/IMAG0361.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
British forces manage to pull all of the passengers and crew out of the disabled MRAP unharmed, however their firepower was not capable of stopping a massive cell of insurgents to pour out into the street and kill most of the platoon's HQ element. These Taliban were dealt with, but not without great cost.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rGidq1080CA/UZhM8Qt5eqI/AAAAAAAAATw/yHgnmtYe__k/s1600/IMAG0363.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rGidq1080CA/UZhM8Qt5eqI/AAAAAAAAATw/yHgnmtYe__k/s320/IMAG0363.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I stumbled with a few rules as I had not run a game in a while, and probably gave some fatal tactical advise for the players controlling the Brits. As usual was a fun game and it is always nice to get my friends playing. Kurt and Gary didn't disappoint with the plethora of 1s rolled for reaction tests which caused a large amount of Fog of War cards to be drawn. First time playing with Jayme and it was a blast. <br />
<br />
I plan on working with my friends in writing some fun new scenarios to play. We are also trying to come up with some fun what if scenarios. Will probably run a game or two at Tacticon in September.LittleNickyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15745767087177566501noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8739739902968515896.post-51844667432546456812013-05-14T00:37:00.001-06:002013-05-14T03:56:23.115-06:00British Infantry for Helmand finished!Phew!
